Q: Can I go swimming right after spray tanning?
A: My best advice would be to wait until after the 8-10 hours have passed and after you have taken a shower. A majority of spray tan techs use solution with bronzer in it - it is basically used as a guide because the DHA does not take affect straight away. So when you do first get wet all that "make-up" washes off.
Q- My friend recommended a tanning solution to me. She looks perfectly bronzed... I look like an oompa loompa! What happened?
A- Because we all have different skin types/colors the same solutions don't all work the same for every one. The best thing to do is try a few different solutions and just have the tech apply them lightly and see what works best for you! If the color is ever slightly green though, that means the solution went bad. They have a limited shelf life.
Q- Why is my spray tan is peeling on my chest??
A:Although this is a very rare occurrence, I had this happen to a guy who was a fitness competitor . It is caused by perfumes, which were applied either before, or after the session. And it does not matter if you had a shower and scrubbed before your spray tan. Some perfumes just penetrate skin deeply and will still cause peeling.
Q- Does a professional airbrush tan smell as bad as some of those at home self tanners?
A- While a few of them do it is something that is slowly fading out. The tanning brands I personally use never smell to bad, but even they differ. Norvell, which is always my go to product for olive skin tones, has an okay smell. But the extremely popular million dollar tan smells horrific! It has beautiful color but the smell is just awful! Then of course there is Cali Color Spray Tanning Solution and it smells and looks great!
Q- I have had a bad experience tanning... maybe it just isn't for me?
A- Spray Tanning is for everyone! :) Sometimes a few different things can factor into the way your tan comes out.. Such as if you were tanned in a machine or by a person, ( if a person were they skilled? ) the quality of solution, the condition of your skin when you were tanned. Q- Can I tan naked?
A- That always depends on the spray tech who is applying your tan.
Q- Will the tan come out evenly if I have hair on my arms or legs?
A- Yes, the gun is connected to an air compressor that blows the hair out of the way. Sometimes a few drops will gather on the hair, but remember that is just make up and can be easily patted away.
Q- Is there a way to make sure my tan comes out perfect?
A- Of course! Make sure that you exfoliate and shower before you go to your tanning session. It is also advised to not put on any make-up, deodorant, perfume, lotions, etc.. and then wait the recommended 8-10 hours before showering and moisturize twice daily.
Q- How tanned will I get?
A- Everybody’s skin develops its own individual color. Some people get very tanned while others get just a nice glow. For those people, with repeated sessions, the skin tends to get used to solution, and starts to develop more color.
Q- I got spray tanned and I have streaks just on the back of my legs, why?
A- The bronzer in the solution can gather there. Just let the spray tan tech know, and they can wipe it off and fix any problems.
Q- I got the solution on my hand and have an orange spot... what do I do?
A- Don't worry! This happens to me all the time! All you need to do is put a little bit of baby oil on a washcloth and wipe it away.
Q- Can I have sex after a spray tan?
A- I know, you look flawless and want to show it off! BUT hold on... you don't want to sweat and make any streaks. So wait the 8-10 hours, shower and then go for it!
Q- Is a spray tan safe?
A- Yes, it is FDA approved and if using solution that is DHA based it is made from sugar. All natural.
